Meghana Raj may not be seen as much in the Kannada film industry but the actor always manages to spring a surprise whenever she appears in a film.

She proved this with her exceptional performance in Raja Huli and now again in her latest project titled, Allama, Meghana plays the role of a 12th century dancer. She goes by the name of Maya Devi in the movie.

“I’ve never played a character like this before. I am expected to act, talk and behave every inch like someone from that era. The director is a perfectionist, so all the actors have to master the expressions and get the dialogues right before every take,” Meghana explains.
The film Allama traces the life of a mystic saint whose life changes after Maya Devi enters
his life.

“The passion and dedication of the saint attract me and I begin to develop a liking for him. My character is very stubborn and dominating. If she wants something, she would go to any extent to get it. There’s a lot of drama that ensues in the bargain,” explains Meghana.
The story is written around both these characters — saint and Maya Devi. “In the movie, Maya Devi is a very beautiful woman. Anyone would be mesmerised with her,” she adds. Her character, feels Meghana, emanates a lot of positive energy. “Kathak dancer Madhu Nataraj has been roped in to teach kathak. We will be presenting the dances in contemporary style to suit the cinematic format. I’ve learnt Kathak and that has helped immensely for this project,” she notes.
