Bennekudru school to be closed

Last Updated 23 December 2009, 17:19 IST

The panchayat meet unanimously decided that the allocations given to the school should be stopped immediately. BEO has written a letter to Taluk Panchayat to close down the school. The school had four students. Of which, two have been shifted to neighbouring school.

Other two students will be shifted to other school under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyana. There is lack of students even in Matadapalu school, said BEO.

Some members demanded that the school should be closed down. However, some members raised objection and opined that closure of the school may add to the already existing hassles, as it is one of the polling booths during Lok Sabha and Assembly polls.
Member Umesh Naik raised the issue of inequality in the allocations made to gram panchayats and taluk panchayat in Udupi. He pointed out that Karkala and Kundapur are receiving nearly Rs 1.3 lakh allocations for Gram Panchayats.

Executive officer Ramanand Nayak assured that taluk panchayat has received funds on Saturday. It will be simultaneously distributed among 61 gram panchayats. The amount allotted will comprise the payments of the MESCOM bills. Remaining amount will be given to the gram panchayats, he added.

President Shyamala Sudhakar, Vice President Soumya, Standing Committee Chairman Katpadi Srinivas Poojary were present.
