Irregularities to the tune of whopping Rs 5.43 crore have been detected in the implementation of projects under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) in Gowra village of Afzalpur taluk of Gulbarga district.
Rural Development and Panchayat Raj minister H K Patil told reporters here on Sunday that while the village had 1,345 job cardholders, as much as Rs 26 lakh had been paid as wages during 2014-15, he said. The minister said that Rs three crore had already been withdrawn from the bank and criminal cases have been registered against gram panchayat president and panchayat development officer.
