Speaking to Deccan Herald, SP Praveen Pawar said that the deceased has been identified as Babloo Kumar Singh (23), a native of Bihar. He was employed at Tebma Shipping Company. He was engaged in the grinding works of the ship’s wing tank, when the accident occurred. A spark caused the boiler suit to catch fire. As a result he fell on the floor of the tank and succumbed to the injuries. While the other injured have been admitted to the hospital, he said.

Expressing their anger over the death of their fellow worker, the workers hurled stones at the administrative building. Police who rushed to the spot resorted to lathicharge in order to control the situation, SP added.

However, SP Praveen Pawar declined the allegation that police reached the spot late, as baseless.

Soon after the accident the labourers staged a stir against the lack of safety measures in the company. The other soon after the incident started agitation alleging the company authorities for not taking any safety measures.
