Two of three youths who had allegedly executed four robberies on Friday night in south Delhi have been arrested, police said on Monday.

Their victims that night included a Border Security Force (BSF) jawan. The youths were on a robbing spree after consuming alcohol and targeted people in Delhi Cantonment and R K Puram in the intervening night of Friday and Saturday.

Sandeep and Shahid had been released from jail less than two months ago for their alleged involvement in snatchings and robberies.

Police said the duo had met in jail and decided to rob people together on being released.
A hunt is on for their third partner, police said.

The first of their victims that night included BSF jawan Satish Kumar, who was returning home from work.

When he reached Dhaula Kuan flyover after getting off a bus, he was waylaid by three youths, who robbed him of his mobile phone, Rs 700 and even assaulted him for resisting the bid.

Within hours of this crime being reported at Delhi Cantonment police station, three more similar incidents took place in R K Puram. These included two house break-in cases, police said.

“On Monday morning, we got reliable input that the men involved in Friday night’s crime spree were present near Chanakyapuri railway station. A police team swung into action and arrested the duo,” a police officer said.

Police said both men told them that had committed several thefts and snatchings in Delhi.
Five mobile phones and Rs 4,940 have been recovered from them.

While Shahid is accused of being involved in 13 cases in the past, Sandeep is accused of three cases.

“We are verifying their involvement in similar incidents reported from two police districts,” the officer said.
