Last Updated 17 September 2014, 19:03 IST

Much against the popular perception, Punjab beats popular tourist destinations like Kerala, Rajasthan and Gujarat when it comes to tourist inflow.

Punjab has undisputedly been selected from among the other states as the most sought after destination amongst the tourism circles of India. The state has been able to surpass popular tourist states like Jammu and Kashmir, Kerala, Gujarat and Rajasthan.

On Wednesday, Union Minister for Tourism and Culture, Shripad Yesso Naik conferred the ‘Most Progressive State for Tourism’ award to Sohan Singh Thandal, Punjab’s Tourism and Cultural Affairs Minister, in New Delhi.

Thandal said the state, which is the land of five rivers and yellow fields, is a favourite tourist destination.
