Three software engineers were killed after their car rammed into the side wall of the elevated flyover in Electronics City traffic police limits in the early hours of Saturday.

The deceased - Anees Verghese, 26, a resident of BTM Layout, Raj Vydiyanathan, 35, and Rajiv Charles, 35, natives of Chennai and residents of Electronics City - were working as software engineers for Happiest Minds Technology.

They were on their way to office when the accident occurred. At 3.45 am, as they were descending from the flyover, Charles, who was at the wheel, lost control over the car and hit the side wall of the flyover and the vehicle toppled over.

Passersby, who noticed the car rolling over, rushed to their rescue and found them dead as they had suffered severe head injuries.

They were shifted to a nearby hospital, but declared brought dead by doctors, the police said.

They had spent time together at Verghese’s house before leaving for work. Eye-witnesses said the car was moving at high speed and the driver could not control it.

Most drivers descending from the flyover tend to overspeed. It is yet to be confirmed if the men were under the influence of alcohol. The bodies were sent to Victoria Hospital for autopsy.

The police have registered a case and investigation is on, a senior police officer said.
