Woman clubbed to death at home

Police suspect son's involvement

A 45-year-old woman was found dead at her house in Thigalarapalya under Tavarekere police limits on Saturday night.

Police suspect that the deceased, identified as Venkatamma, 45, was beaten to death by her 20-year-old son Basavaraj.

Basavaraj was allegedly unable to bear his mother’s harassment as she would often come home in an inebriated state and pick a quarrel with him.

On Saturday night, Venkatamma came home drunk and got into a verbal duel with her son.

It then led to a fight and in a fit of rage, Basavaraj hit his mother’s head with a club. Venkatamma soon collapsed on the floor and hearing her screams, the neighbours rushed to the house.

They found the woman lying in a pool of blood and informed the police, the police said.

Venkatamma had succumbed to excessive bleeding and her body was later shifted to the hospital for post-mortem, added police. Basavaraj had fled the spot.

A senior police officer said, “We are aware of the whereabouts of Basavaraj and he will be arrested soon. Only after his arrest, we will know the exact reason behind Venkatamma’s death.”

A case has been registered and further investigation is being carried out.
