40 firms take part in IISc career fair

A need to adapt to fast changing technologies and trends and encourage entrepreneurship was the essential message to students at the two-day career fair of Indian Institute of Science, Samanway, 2014 that got underway on Friday.  

As many as 40 companies such as IBM, Xerox, General Electric, St Gobain, JSW, Tejas Networks are among participants. Delivering the keynote, IISc Director Anurag Kumar said academic institutions teach students how to learn.

Students should use it to make themselves relevant to the industry. He also advised students to have “right expectations” when starting their career in the industry.


Mindtree Co-Founder Krishna Kumar Rangarajan highlighted how IISc should pay more attention to tapping into entrepreneurship capabilities of its students.

“IISc has generated a number of smart engineers. Now , it should embark on creating entrepreneurs who create more jobs.” He said “Samanway should have an overarching vision to go beyond a career fair.”

Even as placement process is to begin in November, a number of participating companies expressed their intent to recruit students from the institute. An earlier edition of Samanway was held in April this year .
