The City’s pubs were painted red by the fans of Royal Challengers Bangalore for the final of the Indian Premier League. Tables at all the happening watering holes in the City were booked in advance by thirsty fans of the Bangalore-based team.

A sea of red drowned out regular pub revellers that turned up in other colours, as fans religiously turned out in the team’s uniform. Fans that could not get their hands on the team jersey for one reason or another did their best to exhibit their support by turning out in various tints, hues and shades of red.

The red fever gripped Bangalore so much so that bouncers at the pubs often under a strict dress code did their best to fit in. “I cannot deviate too much from what I wear usually but I am wearing a red tie to show my support,” a bouncer said.

Archana, a professional said, “Obviously I am wearing red to show my support for the Royal Challengers. But I haven’t booked a table in advance so I’m struggling to find a seat.” Tina, a homemaker did not find a red top so she came in the next best colour, pink. She said “I could not find a red top so I wore pink.”

Vishnu Subodhai, a self-proclaimed “hardcore fan of the Challengers,” and his posse of 35 friends have not missed a single match. Subodhai says, “We had booked the tables in advance, we were here for the semi-final also and we have come here to support our team.”

Those that had come in large groups simply came to have a good time with the game and the result immaterial to their ‘spirit-ual’ pursuit. In other words those that were not in high spirits were high on spirit.
