The Konaje police here have registered cases of abduction and attempt to outrage the modesty of a woman against five Bajrang Dal activists and a youth, based on a complaint filed by a woman from Elyarpadav near here.

The woman, a Catholic Christian, had married Roshan Shetty at Arya Samaj here on October 16 in the presence of some Bajrang Dal activists. The girl’s parents too had visited the wedding venue where a tiff occurred between both the parties and the girl had stood firm on her decision to marry Shetty.

She had told reporters that she was marrying him by her own volition. She escaped from a hotel where she was staying with Shetty for three days and returned to her parents.

On Wednesday, however, she filed a complaint at the Konaje police station, alleging that five Bajrang Dal activists and Shetty had drugged, abducted and forced her to marry the latter.

She said in her complaint that she knew him and she had gone to meet him in the market to give some money. It was then that he forced her to drink some juice laced with a sedative. She also stated that the activists had threatened to harm her parents if she refused to marry Shetty.

She has named Bajrang Dal leader Jagadish Shenava for forcing her to sign a few papers at the deputy commissioner’s office on October 17.  The police have registered cases against Shetty, Shenava, Dinesh Kadri, Sharath Amblamogaru, Ganesh Kumpala and Praveen.

Mangalore City Police Commissioner R Hitendra said the investigation was on.
