Property dispute between a man, an ex-serviceman, and his son took a violent turn, with the former opening fire and injuring three of his family members, at Kirangur, in Periyapatna taluk, on Sunday.

The ex-serviceman, identified as Mallaiah, surrendered at Periyapatna police station. The injured are Janakamma, Mallaiah’s wife; Sridhar, his son and Asha, daughter-in-law.

Partition

The accused owned five acres of land in the village, of which he had partitioned two acres to his younger son, Sridhar. Sridhar had separated from his father and was living with his mother Janakamma and wife Asha.

The incident on Sunday is said to be a flare up of the property dispute that was going on since a few years.

On Sunday, around 5 pm, Sridhar was working in a portion of the field, when Mallaiah started an argument, asking to him to work in other parts of the field.

When Sridhar did not budge to his demands, Mallaiah took the gun and fired two rounds in the air, demanding his son to step away from the field.

When Sridhar continued his work, Mallaiah fired on Sridhar’s leg. Janakamma and Asha who rushed to prevent Mallaiah from firing, also sustained bullet injuries. The three were rushed to K R Hospital for treatment. Periyapatna police have registered a case.
