Two sisters who had been to a pond in their family farm to fetch water drowned after they accidentally fell into it, on the outskirts of Kerur village in the taluk on Sunday morning.
Police said that the deceased are Surekha Neelappa Kamble, 13, and Mangal Neelappa Kamble, 12. At around 10 am, the sisters, along with their brother Sagar, 10, went to fetch water. Following heavy rains, the pond was almost full.
One of the sisters slipped on the marshy banks of the pond and fell into the water. The other went to her rescue, but both met a watery grave.
