'Elected reps, officials involved in illegal sand mining'

Speaking at a press meet , he said even after giving several petitions to the Deputy Commissioner and the Superintendent of Police, the illegal sand mining and transportation has not stopped. “As per an instruction from the DC on December 14, the Deputy Director of Mines and Geology had asked the sand mining contractors namely S Abbas, Ismail, Kishan Shenava and Bhaskar to stop the activities immediately. But nothing has taken place so far,” Aboobakker said.

“The official had also stated that a mines adalat will be conducted at the DC’s office on December 24, but it was cancelled without any prior intimation,” he complained. “More than 250 loads of sand is being transported to Kerala violating the rules every day. If step is not taken to stop sand mining from Netravathi immediately, the villagers will certainly launch a massive protests, he said.
