Being CM's son may not benefit Dushyant Singh

Speculation in Rajasthan over Modi's pick for cabinet
Last Updated 09 November 2014, 02:33 IST

Anticipation and anxiety have gripped Rajasthan BJP just ahead the much-awaited expansion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s cabinet.

Amid the speculation that two MPs from the state are getting into the Modi cabinet, local leaders and party workers are anxious to know if Dushyant Singh, senior MP from Jhalawar and son of Rajasthan Chief Minister, will be  among them.

“Rajasthan is the only state where BJP made a clean sweep and won all 25 Lok Sabha seats. Despite this achievement, the state could not get its due last time.

So this time, the party is expected to do justice to Rajasthan. There is a  strong possibility that at least two MPs from the state may get ministerial berth in the Modi cabinet,” said a senior legislator of the party.

BJP leaders feel that polarisation of the Jat community has been a major reason behind the massive BJP victory in the Assembly and parliamentary elections.

The Jat community is a traditional vote bank of Congress but they voted for Modi in both the elections.

In such situation, the party has some compulsion to accommodate at least one Jat leader from Rajasthan in the Union cabinet.

Jat left for Delhi

Sources confirmed that one of the Jat MPs, Sawarlal Jat has left for Delhi after being called by BJP’s top leadership.

Sawarlal Jat was a cabinet minister in the Raje government and won Lok Sabha elections from Ajmer. Despite winning the parliamentary election, Jat continues as a cabinet minister in Rajasthan.

Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, Arjun Ram Meghwal, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Om Birla and C R Choudhary are the other talked-about names in BJP camp.

Dushyant, son of Rajasthan Chief Minister is the most senior MP from Rajasthan. Despite pressure politics by Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, he was not given any place during formation of the Union cabinet in May.

Dushyant was projected as a senior-most Jat leader from Rajasthan but nothing worked in his favour.

Party leaders feel that he may again be dropped for second time as Modi does favour dynastic politics, for which he has been targeting Congress party.

“Modi doesn’t favour dynasty politics. Chances of Dushyant become less as he is son of Rajasthan Chief Minister. The turn of events since formation of the Union government hints about some differences between Raje and top leadership. But in politics nothing can be predicted,” said a senior BJP legislator.

The recent meeting of senior BJP leader and Modi confidant Om Mathur and Raje is now being linked to discussions over the leaders who will be picked for team Modi on Sunday.
