Omar vows to resolve Kashmir issue

National Conference leader calls PDP 'party of corruption specialists'
Last Updated 09 November 2014, 20:24 IST

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said on Sunday that he will not rest nor will the National Conference withdraw its stand on the Kashmir issue till it is resolved through political means, that takes into account the realities and sentiments of Kashmiris.

“I have always maintained that Kashmir needs a political solution and have said this not only on the floor of the Assembly but also in front of a visiting Prime Minister. Let me assure you that we will never ever waver in our stand on the resolution of the Kashmir (issue),” he said while addressing an election rally in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district.

Referring to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) he said, “We are not like others whose fancy, innovative political slogans have a one-year shelf-life after which they cease to exist for that party.”

Taking a dig at PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, he said, “He (Mufti) used to speak about the Task Force (Special Operations Group of Police) once upon a time and today he has insulted the dignity and intelligence of the people by not only formally embracing Ashiq Bukhari, a retired SSP and a Task Force specialist but by giving him the status of a ‘senior leader’ in his party.”

“What will Mufti say about Task Force today after he has so gloriously and brazenly rewarded a Task Force stalwart?” Omar asked.

He alleged that PDP’s inherent desire to insult the people of J&K keeps resurfacing every now and then and this  “party of corruption specialists and turncoats”
should know that the people of the state will never compromise on their honour and self-respect.

He claimed that it was the PDP which opposed the rehabilitation policy for return of Kashmir youth from across the Line of Control (LoC).

“Today (under the policy) more than three hundred of our youth have returned to their homes and don’t have to undergo the humiliation of coming back with guns and surrender in Army camps”, Omar said.

The chief minister said that PDP’s hall of “fame in corruption, as diverse and colourful as it is, should hang Mufti’s head in shame.” “PDP leaders including Mehbooba Mufti keep saying that give us a chance as we have something to offer. What does PDP have to offer? I will tell you what PDP has to offer. They have a rice and rice bag thief to offer to Srinagar, a Task Force Specialist to offer to Kupwara, a urea thief to offer to Rafiabad and a land grabber Member of Parliament and a fake-fertilizers businessman to offer to our historic city that is the centre of our culture, history and heritage”, Omar alleged.

Omar said that the conviction of PDP general secretary by a CBI court has “stripped the party and shorn of all its rhetorical delusions.”
