A 19-year-old girl, a II PU student, was raped by a school bus driver in front of her friend on October 26 . Police said the suspect Sanjeev Murthy (31) was arrested based on a complaint. He was working as a driver for a private school in Banashankari.

On October 26, the victim and her friend were on their way to a temple in Uttarahalli under Kengeri police limits. Due to heavy rain, they took shelter under a tree. The accused, who was passing by, took shelter under the same tree. He tried to snatch the mobile phone that the boy was holding. When he resisted Murthy’s attempt, he took a wooden log lying there and hit the boy, police said. The police said that the duo pleaded with him to take the phone, but spare them. But he forced the boy and his friend into a dilapidated house nearby. He thrashed the boy again, who fell down writhing in pain. Then, the suspect started sexually assaulting the girl. Later, he snatched the boy’s phone and fled.

From the next day, he started calling the victim on her mobile phone and threatened her that he would leak the video of the act, if she fails to pay him money. When she started getting frequent calls from the accused, she approached her relative, a member of a Kannada organisation. The activists of the organisation took them to the police station and helped the duo lodge a complaint.
