The South Corporation is mulling to increase the fee for its advertisements on walls and vehicles like taxis and buses including self-signages for shops.

With an aim to generate more revenue the civic agency is revising the rates, said an official with Remunerative Projects (RP) Cell of South Delhi Municipal Corporation.

According to the proposed rates, an advertisement on a taxi will cost Rs 2,400 per month as against Rs 1,600, and for radio taxis the fee will be Rs 3,000. At present radio taxi owners have to shell out Rs 2,000 a month to put up an ad on their vehicles.

On public transport buses an ad will cost Rs 3,750 as against Rs 2,500. The South Corporation is not charging school buses for putting up ads.

According to the RP Cell, both the owners of the vehicles and advertisement companies have to give an affidavit to get the permission.

“For illegal advertisements vehicle owners are given notice but many a times it is seen that a vehicle is registered under somebody else’s name. So we have decided to put the onus on the advertisement agencies as well,” said the official.

With an aim to augment revenue from vacant hoardings ad sites, the corporation has decided to bring the rates to put up advertisements on walls at par with them.
Currently, wall wraps are given on standard a rate of Rs 100 a month per site.

Advertisements for unipole hoardings  are given through e-tendering process.

“People refrain from paying for unipole sites because they cost more than wall wraps. Advertisements put on wall wraps have better visibility so everyone goes for wall wraps instead of unipole ad sites,” said Manish Gupta, Commissioner of South Delhi Municipal Corporation.

The RP Cell said the civic agency gets a paltry sum and contractors are getting hefty amount from advertisement agencies.

“Fees for putting up ads have not been revised since a long time,” the official said.
Also, the self-signages put up on top of shops will cost more now.
