The State government will soon set up cancer hospitals at Karwar, Belagavi and Raichur in partnership with Tata Memorial Hospital.
Speaking after inaugurating new CT scan machine at Kidwai Institute of Oncology on Wednesday, Minister for Medical Education Dr Sharanprakash Patil said that cancer hospitals will also be set up at Kalaburagi and Mandya and a sum of Rs 45 crore had been set aside for the purpose.
“ A sum of Rs 120 crore has been earmarked for upgrading Kidwai Institute. The Union government will contribute 75 per cent of the funds and the State will meet the balance,” he said. The new CT scan slice machine will cut down the waiting period for diagnosis from four days from 15 days. This facility is in addition to the existing CT Scan (six slice) machine.
“An additional machine was necessary due to the ever increasing patient flow. This was also one of the reasons for a delay caused in diagnosis of patients in the institute,” Patil said.
