A decision in this regard was taken following the directives of Governor K Sankaranarayanan to Soren, asking him to prove his majority on the floor of the House on or before January 8.

The Jharkhand Assembly has been convened for five days beginning from January 4, after the cabinet chose senior Jharkhand Mukti Morcha leader Teklal Mahto as the pro tem Speaker.

Soren on Wednesday got back to the chief minister’s chair, riding on a fractured mandate.
This is his third tenure as the chief minister. Though with Bharatiya Janata Party’s 18, AJSU’s five, Janata Dal (United)’s two and one Independent’s support, the government headed by Soren looks well placed during the trial of strength.

Soren, however, will have to cross the hurdle of becoming the member of House. Earlier in January this year he lost to Jharkhand Party’s Raja Peter in the Tamar by-poll and had to resign.

“We are seriously pondering over the safest seat for Guruji (Soren). Jamtar and Jama are his favourite option. However, Guruji will take a final decision in this regard,”said party insiders.
