MPs adopt villages in the region

Last Updated 19 November 2014, 18:16 IST

While Mysuru and Kodagu MP Prathap Simha has adopted Kari Muddenahalli at Bilikere hobli,  Hunsur taluk in Mysuru district, Mandya MP C S Puttaraju has adopted Kere Thonnur, a village in Pandavapura, in Mandya district, under ‘Sansad Adarsh Grama Yojana’ (MP’s model village scheme) launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Chamarajanagar MP R Dhruvanaryana in turn has adopted D B Kuppe in H D Kote taluk, Mysuru district.

Muddenahalli is a nondescript village located 35 km from the city of Mysuru, with 58.23 literacy rate. It has 577 houses and has a population of 2,313, with 1,171 males and 1,142 females.

However, though there is no exact criterion for adopting villages for developing its physical infrastructure by 2016, the prime minister had stressed on identifying villages with a population of 3,000 to 5,000.

The details of the village identified for the purpose has been forwarded from the deputy commissioner’s office to New Delhi for further relaxation and approval, before development works are taken up. The village has remained backwards, as it was delisted from Suvarna Grama Yojane earlier.

Mandya

Kere Tonnur is one of the tourist spots of Mandya district. Speaking to Deccan Herald, Puttaraju said that Kere Tonnur village would be developed as a model village. The deputy commissioner has already been informed about the same, and a blue print would be readied soon.

“Kere Tonnur is already a tourist spot. All facilities including roads, underground drains, drinking water will be provided funded by the Centre, and developed into one of the popular picnic spots of the State,” he added.

Chamarajanagar

D B Kuppe is a tribal dominated area with several hamlets located on the fringes of forest. It is cut off from the modern world, lacking proper roads and regular drinking water supply. Most of the dwellers here are illiterates. H D Kote, though geographically located in Mysuru district, comes under Chamarajanagar LS segment, post delimitation of the constituency.
