Miscreants attempted to burgle a jewellery shop located on T C Palya Main Road, under Ramamurthy Nagar police limits.

A tunnel had been dug through a hole on the rear side of the shop, according to the owner.

A senior police officer said, “The owner of the shop, Parasmal Ravi, resides on top floor while the shop was located on the ground floor. On October 28 night, on hearing the burglar alarm go off, he had rushed downstairs to check inside the shop but found nothing amiss.”

However, in the morning, the housekeeping staff at the school, located behind the shop, found a hole while cleaning the backside of the school.

Two feet hole

They informed the owner, who saw it was a two feet hole. “The miscreants had scaled the wall of the school and went to the back side of the school and dug the wall but the alarm had foiled their plans.”

“Fortunately, the alarm went off before they could finish digging. The workers at the school do not visit the rear side of the school, as it is only used to dump waste. But, on Wednesday, when they went to clean the area they discovered the hole,” he said.

The police said they will question the school watchman and gather more details about the incident. A  case has been registered and efforts on to trace the miscreants.
