The International Olive Oil Council (IOC) had an interesting interaction for food enthusiasts at Indiranagar Club recently.

The session began with Habib Essid, Deputy Director, Head of the Technical and Promotion Division, IOC taking the audience through a powerpoint presentation on olive oil, its consumption, the market status, and other features. After the brief overview, he introduced the audience to Prahalad, “We are extremely pleased to have Prahalad as our brand ambassador. His innate love for food and cooking coupled with his fierce passion and commitment towards his interests would immensely help in promoting the use of olive oil and table olives in India,” he said enthusiastically.

Prahalad took the reins for the next two hours with a witty cooking demo, and later a olive oil tasting session for the audience. “I am thrilled at this association. It is my privilege to be able to contribute to this wonderful cause of promoting a beneficial product like olive oil and table olives in India where its awareness lies very low,” he said.
Many interesting facts were revealed, like olive oil export figures from the European Union to India, have risen from 572 tonnes in 2002 to 1763 tonnes in 2007, which prove the immense potential consumption growth in India. More importantly, the market is growing at 40 per cent annually. Olive oil is considered a healthy cooking medium since it not only provides mono unsaturated fats but is also rich in vitamins A, D, E and K, and all anti-oxidants which fight cancer and prevent ageing.

With an enthusiastic host, amazing pro-health facts and delicious snacks, all promoting the olive oil, the audience sure made up their mind to pick up a bottle of the exotic oil, on their way back home.
