A collection agent was robbed of Rs 6 lakh by armed motorcycle-borne assailants in north-east Delhi’s Usmanpur, police said on Wednesday.

Praveen Kumar, 28, lives with his family in north-east Delhi’s Ghonda. Police said he works as a collection agent for a Mumbai-based company. The incident took place around 2 pm on Tuesday.

“Praveen was on his way to office after collecting cash when the incident took place,” said a police officer. He was near Brahampuri when his motorcycle was intercepted by three men on a motorcycle.

The accused allegedly threatened Praveen with dire consequences if he did not hand over the cash bag. When Praveen resisted, one of the accused whipped out a country-made pistol and threatened to shoot him.

“They then snatched Praveen’s bag and fled from the spot,” the officer added. After an initial probe, police suspect that the accused had been following Praveen and were aware about the cash that he was carrying.

A case has been registered with New Usmanpur police station. “We have questioned the staff of Praveen’s office and the offices where he went for the cash collection, but no arrest has been made so far,” the officer said.
