Centre urged to direct State to procure maize at MSP

Last Updated 28 November 2014, 03:08 IST

BJP leader Pralhad Joshi on Thursday demanded the Narendra Modi government to direct Karnataka government to open procurement centres for maize as per the minimum support price.

Raising the issue during Zero Hour, Joshi accused the Karnataka government of not procuring maize at the minimum support price. “The farmers who have grown maize are also agitating as the market price is less than Rs 500 or Rs 600 per quintal,” he said.

In northern Karnataka, farmers had thrown the onion crop on the streets as the prices per quintal had fallen from Rs 1,200 to Rs 100.

Joshi wanted the Central government to direct the State government to immediately open the procurement centre with MSP support.
