DU to probe repetition of BCom Hons paper

Last Updated 29 November 2014, 02:57 IST

The Delhi University has formed a three-member committee to look into a reported case of repetition of question paper.

This semester exam season, the paper on financial management for BCom (Hons) was a repetition of what School of Open Learning (SOL) had asked its students in the annual examination in May 2014. SOL is the distance learning arm of DU.

“In view of the reports brought before the university concerning examination of BCom (Hons) fifth semester financial management paper no. CH5.2, the vice chancellor has appointed a three-member committee to examine the entire issue and accordingly fix responsibility in the matter,” the university in a press statement said.

DU media coordinator Malay Neerav said the university will ensure “fair situation” for those who took the exam, but only after the committee’s report. He, however, didn’t confirm whether re-examination is a possibility.

Slamming the varsity for the “examination fiasco”, Delhi University Teachers’ Association president Nandita Narain said, “The evaluation process is a hurried and perfunctory affair; ad-hoc teachers are often forced to correct unreasonably large number of scripts, including those of papers that they have not been teaching.”

“The chaos has compromised value and credibility of the exam system,” she added.
The teacher body said that besides independent inquiry, the reasons for repeated failures, on the part of the Delhi University Administration, to ensure smooth and credible conduct of Examinations need to be investigated.

DU said the probe panel will be headed by Prof RC Kuhad (Department of Microbiology) and will have Prof Mridula Gupta (Department of Electornics) and Dr Rajesh (Department of Adult Education) as its members. The committee is expected to submit its report within two weeks.
