A man was found dead with his throat slit in north-east’s Delhi Jyoti Nagar. A bloodstained knife has been found on the spot, police said on Friday.

Kapil Mehr, 22, who hailed from Uttarakhand, assisted a disc jockey. Police said he lived with his friends in a rented house at Gokulpuri block B.

“The incident came to light when a call was made to the police control room around 9 pm on Friday,” said a police officer. It was reported that an injured man was lying near Delhi Jal Board’s office in Jyoti Nagar.

Kapil was taken to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, where he was declared brought dead. Police said he had sustained multiple stab wounds in the attack. After an initial probe, police have ruled out robbery as nothing was found missing.

“We have recovered his wallet with cash and a mobile phone. It hints that he may have been killed by someone known to him,” the officer added. A case of murder under Indian Penal Code has been filed with Jyoti Nagar police station.

Police have analysed the call data records of Kapil’s mobile phone. It is suspected that he was attacked over a friendship with a girl in the neighbourhood.

Police informed Kapil’s family and they reached the capital on Friday. The body was handed over to them after a post-mortem.
