India seeks Thai help to nab wanted criminals

India has sought the help of Thailand to apprehend Indian criminals, including Jagtar Singh Tara who is the main accused in the assassination of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh, hiding there.

The issue was raised by Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju when he met Thai Interior Minister General Anupong Paochinda in Bangkok on Friday. Rijiju is in Thailand to attend the Ministerial Conference on Civil Registration and Vital Statistics.

The Minister conveyed India’s gratitude to Thai authorities for cooperation with New Delhi to apprehend and sending wanted Indian criminals back to India. There is excellent cooperation and I hope to further strengthen the ties in future, he told Paochinda.

During the discussions, Rijiju brought the Thai Minister’s attention to wanted criminal of India, Tara, who is believed to be in Thailand. He said the Indian Embassy has already provided the relevant information and documents to the Thai authorities.
