Cheering for home team

TRIPLE TREAT
Last Updated 25 May 2009, 13:11 IST

Claps, hoots and screams, the City’s P3Ps sure know how to bring down the house while cheering for their favourite Indian Premier league (IPL) and Formula One team. Of the series of IPL parties making its rounds, this sure was a triple bonanza — the evening started with the screening of the Formula One race, which was then followed by Pavithra Halkatti’s fashion show but the cherry on top was the screening of the IPL finals.

MC Abbas kept each and every guest entertained with his witty quizzes and the prizes sure did make up for the prolonged advertisements.

As the night went on, the red jerseys started streaming into the hotel, cheering for none other than the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). “It’s interesting that this is not one of those ‘dressy’ parties. Everyone came in with just one thing in mind, cricket and fun,” whispered a guest. “It’s not about RCB as a team. It’s about Bangalore, all of us are gathered here only for Bangalore,” said Lalit Sanghvi.

“Hopes are really high for Bangalore boy, Manish Pandey. He has played so well so far, I sure hope he gives another century tonight as well,” said a guest.

There was nothing much different at Pavithra's fashion show as it had the same ensemble as the last party but the glamour element gave a good break to the overdose of sports. On asking one of the guests how they would define speed and passion, ‘Michael Schumacher’, came the answer, to which Abbas said, “If you had said ‘Vijay Mallya’, we would have given you two prizes,” he laughed.

But unfortunately it wasn’t Mallya’s night, with his teams not making the cut in either of the sports. Despite RCB losing the match, the fans did not lose heart, “Compared to last season, RCB did really well and I am sure in the next season, we will win,” added a hopeful guest.
