Repeatedly admonished for over his drinking habit, a man allegedly stabbed his 25-year-old wife in the neck on Friday afternoon in south Delhi’s Amar Colony.

The woman received deep stab wounds in her neck, but her condition is said to be out of danger.

Her husband has been on the run since the incident. Sunny, 26, sells brooms in the weekly flea market. The victim Ritu is a homemaker and the couple lives near Modi Mills in Amar Colony with their three children.

Police said Sunny is accused of being an alcoholic who often abuses his wife when he is drunk. It was one of those days on Friday when Sunny began drinking at his home at 4 pm itself. When Ritu objected, it led to a heated argument between the couple and soon resulted into a scuffle.

Sunny allegedly first thrashed his wife and then in a fit of rage brought a knife from the kitchen and stabbed her in the neck.

Leaving her lying in a bleeding state, he fled from the house once he realized that the neighbours had become aware of the fight turning bloody. The neighbours, meanwhile, alerted the police control room. Ritu was rushed to Safdarjung Hospital where she was operated upon and is said to be safe.

Police have booked Sunny for attempt to murder and have launched a manhunt to nab him. The knife used in the assault has been recovered.
