The State BJP on Tuesday demanded that an all-party meeting be convened to decide whether caste-specific conversion data should be included in the forthcoming caste census.

Addressing a press conference in Bengaluru, former minister Kota Srinivasa Poojary and MLC Ashwathanarayan alleged that the government could be collecting conversion data to provide sops to them and develop them into a vote bank. The socio-economic census or case census as it is popularly known will commence during the third week of December.

“Is it necessary to collect caste-specific data. As many as 200 combinations like Brahmin-Christian, Kuruba-Christian, Vokkaliga-Muslim and so on have been listed by the government for identification”, they said.

They said that an all party meeting should be convened to decide whether such information should be collected during the census.
