Three nabbed for murder in Udupi

Speaking to media persons here on Sunday, SP Prawin Pawar informed that Shetty, a resident of Dodderangadi, was found dead on December 31.

The incident

On the ill fated day, he was travelling in his Maruthi Omni from Dodderangadi towards Heeriyadka.

A Tata Indica car overtook the Omni on reaching Bandasaale and forced to stop by brushing the door portion of the Omni. As soon as the Omni was stopped, three persons from the Tata Indica attacked and brutally assaulted Yathish Shetty with swords and knives. Shetty succumbed to injuries on the way to Manipal.

One of the attackers was identified as Santhosh Poojary, a resident of Dodderangadi who was earlier involved in the murder case of one Sudhakar Poojary at Guddeanagadi, Pawar added.

Investigation

A case was registered in Heeriyadka police station and three teams were formed for the investigation.

A special team working under the Dy SP led by Kota PSI Mahesh Prasad collected credible information about the movements of the accused.

Following the clues, Brahmavar CPI acted swiftly and nabbed the three accused Santhosh Poojary, Surendra Poojary and Riyaz. Another accused who had accompanied the three is absconding.

 Tata Indica and the weapons used for the offence have been seized.
The accused were produced before the court today and have been taken to police custody for further interrogation. Personal issues are considered to be the motive behind the murder, he informed. Dy SP Jayanth Shetty was present.

Pedestrian killed

A pedestrian was killed when a car knocked her down at Golikatte Pillya in Belthangady. The deceased has been identified as Seethu (75), a resident of Navara. Rash and nbegligent driving is said to be the reason for the mishap. A case has been registered in Venoor police station.

2 held

Police arrested two persons for illegally transporting 21 wooden logs at Thoranakatte Junction Punacha village in Bantwal.

The value of the seized property is said to be Rs 60,000, informed police. A case has been registered.
