They adore Rajini, he adorns their hearts

Fan frenzy hit the zenith as the much-awaited Rajinikanth-starrer Lingaa was released at many cinemas in the City on Friday.

Fans, young and old, were seen thronging the theatres as early as 5 am to grab a ticket to watch the trilingual movie, shot in many places of the State. The climax has been shot in Shivamogga district.

The fans were seen pouring milk and honey over the huge cut-outs of the superstar, which were erected on the premises of the theatres. Beating of drums and bursting of fire crackers were a common sight near the cinemas. People were shouting slogans such as “Heaven provided only one sun to the world and only one superstar to cinema, long live Thalaiva.” Hundreds of fans were seen wearing T-shirts with a picture of the superstar.

Munirathna, a diehard fan who had travelled from Malur in Kolar district to watch the movie at Nataraj theatre, said, “I made it a point to watch first day first show, just to experience the fan frenzy and the way the release is celebrated. I could have watched the movie in my town, but watching it in Bengaluru is altogether a different feeling.”

A group of fans at Aruna theatre near Srirampura said, “It is a double treat for the fans as the movie is released on the birthday of the actor. The movie is a gift from Rajinikanth to all his fans on his birthday. He is the true superstar of Indian cinema, he is in the profession of cinema for several decades and we pray that he acts in more movies. Whether Robot or Baba or Sivaji, he alone can pull it off with his ultimate style.”

Rockline Venkatesh, producer of Lingaa, told Deccan Herald, “It is a heart-warming memory working with the actor who is adored for his style across the world. The opening day of the movie was received well by the fans and it is surely going to be a success.”

The police had a tough time controlling the crowds near the theatres. The police near Nataraj theatre had to resort to mild lathi charge as people spilt onto the road. Traffic was also thrown out of gear near the theatres as the fans were dancing to the drum beats and bursting of crackers on the roads. A police officer said, “We asked them not to disturb the public. They obliged and helped the police manage the traffic.”
