To reduce traffic congestion in Madikeri town, the district administration in planning to shift the KSRTC bus stand to APMC premises. Hundreds of buses enter the city everyday.

Traffic congestion is a daily affair owing to narrow roads. A large number of vehicles enter into the city  during weekends. Hence it has been decided to shift the KSRTC bus stand. If the bus stand is shifted to APMC premises, the entry of Mysuru-
Mangaluru buses inside the town can be avoided, said sources in KSRTC.

“To reduce the traffic congestion, the authorities introduce one-way traffic in the town. This increases the consumption of fuel. One -way traffic may give a temporary relief. However, in the long run, it will aggravate the situation,” said drivers.
Transport department officials said that if the bus stand is shifted then pressure on the roads inside the town will be reduced. It will also check pollution inside the town. City buses will be introduced to ferry passengers inside the town.

The government has decided to shift the bus stand to the outskirts of the town. The decision will be taken only after consulting the elected representatives and the public, he had said.

It has been decided to set up KSRTC depot at Basavanahalli in Kushalnagar.
Deputy Commissioner Anurag Tewari said “there is a need to conserve the beauty of Madikeri. It has been decided to reduce the traffic congestion. Hence, the authorities are planning to shift the bus shelter. The locals should support the move.”
