Drunk cabbie mows down 2 cops in Delhi

A drunk cab driver rammed his vehicle into police barricades late on Saturday night, leaving two policemen dead and one seriously injured. The accused was caught by another policeman some distance away from the accident spot.

A rum bottle was found in the Maruti Eeco van involved in the accident in south Delhi’s Kalindi Kunj area. The accused driver, Hemant Kumar, 39, was in such an inebriated condition that he couldn’t speak to police till Sunday afternoon. “He was so drunk he couldn’t even come out of his vehicle on his own. Policemen pulled him out,” a police officer told Deccan Herald.

Kumar has been booked for culpable homicide not amounting to murder among some other offences. The driver did not pay any heed to the police personnel signaling the vehicle to stop and rammed into the barricades behind which policemen were standing. The three policemen were dragged several metres along with the vehicle before it came to a halt.
