20-yr-old stabbed to death

Last Updated 15 December 2014, 02:18 IST

A 20-year-old youth was stabbed to death in a marketplace in south Delhi’s Badarpur for annoying his brother-in-law’s family by interfering in their day-to-day life.

The accused and his accomplice were arrested. A minor accomplice continues to abscond, said police on Sunday.

Badarpur resident Lata Kumari and her brother Arjun were in the local market last Monday when the incident took place.

Even as Lata was busy making some household purchases, three persons arrived on a motorcycle and began abusing her brother who was waiting some distance away for a friend.

When she rushed to be by her brother, he was stabbed by the men who then fled on their motorcycle. Arjun was declared brought dead at the AIIMS trauma centre.

Lata later told police that she had seen her brother-in-law Satish, 28, among the three assaulters. She suspected a property dispute between her husband and Satish as the reason for the assault.

Killed for interfering

But Satish’s arrest on Friday revealed that Arjun was killed because he and his family allegedly interfered a lot in Lata and her husband Phool Singh’s relationship.

Satish blamed Lata’s family, in particular her brother, for frequent quarrels in his family.

“Satish decided to teach the family a lesson and planned to eliminate Satish. He called his friend Sonu and a minor boy to help him execute a plan,” said police.

Teams were formed and raids conducted at all possible hideouts of the accused. Teams were sent to Badarpur, Jaitpur, Azadpur, Bulandshahar, Faridabad, Palwal and Ballabhgarh, but they led to failure, police said.

Breakthrough finally came in the form of a tip-off and Satish was arrested outside a wine shop in Faridabad on Friday afternoon while he was headed to meet a relative.

His accomplice Sonu was arrested at Saket the same evening. Satish’s previous involvement in a chain snatching case too has come to the fore following his arrest.
