An angry mob vandalised a bus when it crushed a man to death in Govindpuri in south-east Delhi, one of the five persons  killed in four road accidents in the city since Sunday.

In another accident, a car hit two autorikshaws, killing two persons and injuring seven others.

A speeding bus mowed down a man, about 30 years old, on Monday. Angry locals then damaged the bus and tried to set it on fire. They blocked  traffic and shouting slogans against police and the transport department.

Police said the bus, run under the cluster scheme on route number 429, was headed towards Old Delhi railway station from Kalkaji when it crushed a man crossing the road at around 4.30 pm.

“The driver and conductor of the cluster bus immediately fled the spot. Since the man was badly crushed, several people gathered there and vandalised the bus. They also tried to set the bus on fire, however, police personnel foiled their attempt,” a police officer said.

Additional forces

Additional force was sent to the spot to control the situation and disperse the mob.

Senior police officers also arrived at the spot and assured the mob that the bus driver will be nabbed soon. The body of the victim was sent to AIIMS, where it will be preserved for the next 72-hours for identification.

Two dead, seven hurt

In the second accident, two persons were killed and seven others were injured when a speeding Honda City car hit two auto-rickshaws in in north Delhi’s Kashmere Gate on Sunday.

The car was driven by Akshay Saxena, a manager with an IT company. Police said he lost control over the speeding car that hit a road divider before crashing into the two autorickshaws.

The deceased were identified as Deepak Sharma, 27, and Kailash, 29.

The injured passengers were admitted to Sushruta Trauma Centre.

The third accident took place in north-east Delhi’s GTB Enclave late on Sunday when a 26-year-old man was killed while his friend was injured after they were hit by an unknown vehicle.

Atul Kumar worked as a data operator with Doordarshan, while the injured has been identified as Vishal.

“They were walking in the locality when the accident occurred,” a police officer said.
In yet another accident, a 29-year-old man was killed while his friend was injured when their motorcycle was hit by a speeding car in outer Delhi’s Narela.

“Vivek was driving, while Vikram was riding pillion on the motorcycle. Vivek was declared brought dead at Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital,” police said.
