What could be more inviting than a calm and serene lighting this Christmas season? A number of Christmas-themed candles are available in the market and while the red and green ones are selling the most, there are many other shapes and sizes one can choose from. Scented candles are also much sought-after.

Christmas tree candles and pillar candles are the most in demand during this, says Vikas Tulshan from ‘Candle Shop’. He says that apart from red and green, gold, silver and white ones are also popular. “We have many varieties, from gold and silver Christmas trees to snowflake-shaped candles, snowman, reindeer, Santa and ‘Merry Christmas’ candles,” he says.

He adds that apart from candles, various Christmas decorations are also available at the store. “Pillars and gift sets are usually the most sought-after items,” he says, adding, “candles with transfer prints are also selling fast.”

Santa and angel wings candles are selling fast in SB Decorations, says Santhosh Benny, the owner of the store. “Golden and silver twirled candles and gift set boxes are also hot-sellers. There are also red and green candles, and candles with sparkles on them,” he says. Fragrance adds a lot to a candle, vouches Santhosh.

He says that the top-sellers this season are candles in different aromas, that one can choose from. “We have candles in pleasant scents like ‘cinnamon’ and ‘ginger’. People have been stocking up for the season,” he says.

There are candle-makers in the City like ‘New Dawn Candle Industries’, who accept bulk and corporate orders and make special aromatic candles for the season. “We have various fragrances for the season. For the living room, one can use strawberry and vanilla scented candles; for a lobby, candles with mint, lemon and honey scents are ideal, and for the garden or lawn, one can use lavender, which has a stronger smell,” says Ruksana Hassan, owner of the company.

She adds that the popular colours are red and white. “For smaller orders, we make tea and floating candles,” she says.

Others candle businesses like ‘MEEHRR Handcrafted Candles by Rameet’ has candles in different shapes and colours. The cupcake-themed candles is unique and quite popular. “People bake a lot during this season and these candles actually look edible! There are various candles in green and red combinations too. I also use pine cones while making my candles to give them the seasonal effect,” says Rameet Kaur Ahluwalia.

She says that since people are more concerned about the environment now, she has also made organic candles. “Most candles are made out of paraffin, which is a petroleum by-product. My ‘MEEHRR Earth Friendly’ range is made out of bees wax, palm wax and soya wax. But the ‘burn time’ of the candles is much more. Bees wax is also an air purifier, so it is good for asthma patients. Though a bit costly, these candles are environment-friendly.”
