Childhood plays an important role in shaping one’s persona. And the skills learnt as a toddler remain with you forever. For Tejaswini P, a BBA student at Chitrakala Parishath, art was a hobby that became a passion.

As a toddler, she had her interests in singing and painting. But it was a little later that she realised she had a complete love for painting and that is how her creative talent developed. She had her heart and mind fixed towards art and her dream was to get into an art school after pre-university. But this dream of hers had to be postponed for a while as she pursued Engineering for a year. But the passion for art did not leave her. That is when she quit engineering and soon joined the Chitrakala Parishath to fulfill her other dream of becoming an artist.
This talented young artist has her interests in oil painting, sketching, portrait painting and carving sculptures. Her favourites include paintings of birds that let her add variant colours to them. All her initial art works were self-taught. It was the encouragement she received that motivated her to learn more. “I did not have any particular inspiration. I used to paint as a kid and was encouraged to do more. This encouragement I think became my inspiration,” says Tejaswini.

It was only after graduating from pre-university did she join the art school and receive training in art.
The art school is just an add-on for the already talented artist. She now makes sculptures using chalk and terracotta. She also takes art classes for pre-schoolers and adults where she teaches colour craft and one-stroke painting respectively.

Pursuing her first dream of joining the arts school, she now wants to exhibit her works at ‘Chitra Santhe’. She wants to change the notion of art among the masses. “There is a wrong notion of art which says that there is no future or there can be no career for an artist.  I want to change this strong prevailing notion and show that there is a bright future ahead for the artistes. I also want to open my own gallery here and display my art work,” signs off Tejaswini.
