7 selected for maths Olympiad

Seven students from undivided Dakshina Kannada including six who are undergoing training for JEE at Centre for Advanced Learning in Mangaluru have been selected for the prestigious Karnataka Regional Mathematics Olympiad.

The selected students are eligible to appear for the second stage of the International Mathematics Olympiad which will be held on February 1, 2015.

Addressing a press meet here on Saturday, CFAL Principal Severine Rosario said that a total of 1,455 students from Karnataka had appeared in the first round among whom 70 students were from Mangaluru.

Only 30 students have been selected from Karnataka. The selected students will attend a training camp at Indian Statistical Institute, Bengaluru, in the month of January and are eligible to appear for the second stage of examination.

To select the Indian team for International Mathematics Olympiad, 30 students selected from Indian National Mathematical Olympiad (INMO) will attend a training camp in Mumbai.Out of these, selected team of five to six students will represent India at the IMO.

The selected students from CAFL are Kenrick Pinto, Shishirdeeo, Gautham Bhat, Shashank P (Lourdes Central School), Ranjana B K (Kendriya Vidyalaya) and Pangal Gopal Krishna (Canara PU College).

Pritham A Shetty from Little Rock Indian School has also been selected.
