Police close to nabbing killers of two Sangam Vihar children

Over 50 drug addicts in east Delhi’s Sangam Vihar have been questioned so far in a bid to identify the killers of two boys, aged 8 and 10, police said on Wednesday.

Though no arrest has been made yet, they said they were very close to nabbing the culprits.

The bodies of the boys who were neighbours had been found in a forest with their heads smashed and faces disfigured.

Police suspect that the victims were sodomised before being killed, but said they would wait for the autopsy report to arrive before they can consider that as a possible motive about the crime. The children were found in a semi-nude state.

“It is likely the handiwork of one or more persons who generally visit the forested area to consume smack and other drugs,” a police officer told Deccan Herald.
The officer said they were close to completing the probe and are treading with caution to ensure no innocent person is blamed, the officer said.

There is an alcohol shop on the road leading to the jungle from where the bodies were recovered on Monday night.

The area is notorious for drunkards and drug addicts because of which police are probing into their roles.

The two boys had gone to fetch wood from the forest in Sangam Vihar.

Their parents had approached police and launched a search for them when they did not return home by late evening. One of the boys’ sweater was found on a bundle of wood. A thorough search in the immediate surroundings had led to the two bodies.

One of the victims’ father passed away a few years ago. The other boy’s father is a daily wage labourer.
