Flyovers from ITPL to heart of the City, Chalukya Circle to Hebbal and Electronic City to Central Business District-- these are some of the grand plans the State government has envisaged to decongest Bengaluru.

Infrastructure Development Minister Roshan Baig said here on Friday that the government is keen on building flyovers and expressways from one end of the City to the other. The contracts will be awarded to companies on a “deferential payment” mode. Under this mode, companies are asked to complete the project utilising their own fund, which would be reimbursed by the State government later.

Baig claimed that the proposal has been receiving a lot of response. “We have already had enquiries for the projects. Earlier this week, the chief minister and I met the representatives of Gammon India Pvt Ltd. On Saturday, we are meeting Prathiba Builders. We are presently working out the financial modalities for the ‘deferential payment method,” said the minister. The proposal is being worked upon by the Principal Secretary (Finance) I S N Prasad.

Food for college students

Baig said his pet project of distributing food to college students at subsidised rates is taking a concrete shape. He said he has already had meetings with Iskcon and Higher Education Minister R V Deshpande on this. “Both have agreed to the proposal. We are planning to give food to government colleges at Rs 5 per plate to students, Rs 10 per plate to non-teaching staff and at Rs 15 per plate to the teaching staff, Iskcon is asking Rs 13.50 per plate,” he said.
