Chief Minister Siddaramaiah held the previous governments responsible for not filling the vacant  posts of doctors in the hospitals since the past 10 years, and said that the appointment process has been initiated by his government.

Speaking after inaugurating the two-day State-level 27th government doctors’ convention in Hassan, on Saturday, he said that the appointment process for 983 postgraduate doctors, 321 MBBS doctors and 2,500 Ayurvedic doctors, had been initiated.

The CM clarified that the Finance department, which is headed by him had no objections in the appointments of personnel to the Health, Police and Education departments.

Commenting on the various demands put forth by the doctors, Siddaramaiah said he had given approval for all their demands, except two, during the meeting that was held on October 29, 2014, and that he was committed to it.

Indian Medical Association member H S Ravindra asked the CM to make an announcement on the hike in wages on the dais. Siddaramaiah said that he would hold discussions with Minister U T Khader and other officials and take suitable decision.

He also made a point that the doctors should not resort to any protest and serve the people with patience. He said that it was ironic that students who preferred government medical colleges, however hesitated to serve in government hospitals. The two-day conference should give a clear message to the students in this regard, he stressed.

Health and Family Welfare Minister U T Khader, PWD and District-in-Charge Minister H C Mahadevappa, MLA A Manju, Y N Rudresh Gowda and others were present.
