Telgi sentenced to 7-year jail in fake stamp paper scam

Telgi and another accused Uday Sawant had pleaded guilty in the case. Sawant was sentenced to five years imprisonment. The case was registered in suburb Mira Road in August 1999 after a person named as Phoolchand Jain was arrested for possessing fake stamps.

His interrogation led to several more arrests and Telgi's name cropped up as the one who supplied the fake stamps. There were a total of eight accused, but only Telgi and Sawant pleaded guilty. The trial against the other accused is still pending.

Telgi, presently lodged at a prison in Pune is facing trial in several cases in Maharashtra and Karnataka.
