PE instructor held for molesting student

The NR police on Tuesday arrested a physical education instructor for allegedly kissing a minor student at school.

The accused identified as S Surendra, is a PE teacher at a private educational institution in the city.

In her complaint to the police, the victim’s mother has alleged that on Monday her 15-year-old daughter, a Class 9 student, had gone to the staffroom to bring chalk piece. PE instructor Surendra dragged her and kissed her on her cheeks.

She was taken aback and informed a lady teacher. The incident was brought to the notice of headmaster the same day. Victim’s mother learnt about the incident after the girl returned home and narrated the incident to her.

Incidentally, on Tuesday, much before the victim’s family could lodge a complaint with the police, a group of unidentified locals had assaulted the teacher over the said incident. He was later taken to police custody and produced before a court late in the evening.
He has been remanded in judicial custody. Surendra has been booked under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act and IPC Section 354 (sexual harassment).
