CCB busts hawala racket

The Central Crime Branch sleuths busted a hawala racket and arrested a person who was in possession of unaccounted cash of several lakhs of rupees near a public toilet on Bamboo Bazaar Road near Kamakshipalya on Friday.

According to police, the accused is Rakesh, 44, a resident of Nelamangala.

Based on a tip-off, the sleuths nabbed Rakesh while he was waiting to deliver Rs 15 lakh to some unknown person. The police found that Rakesh did not have valid documents for the money and they seized it. The police are interrogating him to find out the source of the cash and to whom it was to be delivered. A case has been registered and investigation is on.

Five robbers arrested

The CCB police have arrested a gang of five people who were conspiring to rob people near Thyagarajanagar main road on Friday night.

The arrested are Subramanya, 22, Neelakanta, 38, Madhu, 27, Naveen, 22 and Naresh, 21. Shivakumar, Sagar and Guru are absconding. The gang was waiting to rob people who travel alone late in the night.

Informants tipped off the police, who went to the spot and arrested four of them, while three others fled.

Shivakumar is a history-sheeter at the Thyagarajanagar police station. He and the other arrested have several cases against them in various police stations.
