Federer, Nadal enter quarterfinals; Henin forced to dig deep

World number two Rafael Nadal also breezed into the last eight with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Italian Potito Starace.

Federer next faces Latvian Ernests Gulbis while Nadal will face Belgian Steve Darcis.
Russian Nikolay Davydenko breezed past Switzerland's Marco Chiudinelli 6-3, 6-4.

Henin advances
Justine Henin was forced to draw on all her experience to avoid elimination in her comeback event at the Brisbane International on Wednesday.

The former world number one, playing her first official tournament in 20 months, was in danger of bowing out in the quarterfinals before she managed to squeeze past Hungarian Melinda Czink 6-2, 3-6, 7-6.

The 27-year-old will now play Ana Ivanovic after the Serbian beat Russian teenager Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-2, 7-6.

Kim Clijsters beat Czech Lucie Safarova 6-1, 0-6, 6-4 while Germany's Andrea Petkovic won 6-4, 6-2 over Slovakia's Daniela Hantuchova.

In the men's event, Radek Stepanek beat American Wayne Odesnik 7-6, 6-1 to enter the semifinals. Gael Monfils ousted American James Blake 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Leander Paes and Lukas Dlouhy advanced to the semifinals of the doubles after getting a walkover from of Ashley Fisher and Stephen Huss.

Peer wins
Israel's Shahar Peer advanced to the semifinals of the  Auckland Classic with a 6-0, 3-6, 6-1 victory over Russia's Maria Kirilenko.  Peer will meet Yanina Wickmayer who overpowered Kimiko Date Krumm 6-2, 6-2.
