Mandya dist gears up for platinum jubilee celebrations

With Mandya district completing 75 years of its formation, the district administration has geared up to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee Celebrations in a grand manner, from February 20.

As part of the festival, sports meet is being held on February 7 and a publicity vehicle will be launched from February 10. An exhibition of household equipment will be opened from February 19. Apart from this, several activities are being planned to make the celebration a huge success.

Website

It has been decided to make use of the latest technologies to publicise the festival and an exclusive website has been created. The website will showcase the historical, financial, social, educational progress of the Mandya district since its formation. It will also comprise important developments of the district, apart from information about the festival. 

Publicity vehicle

The publicity vehicle will be launched on February 10 and will travel across the district for 10 days. While the front portion of the vehicle has the statue of ‘Cauvery matha’, various tourism destinations and temples of the district have been highlighted on all the sides.

Exhibition

A six-day exhibition will be held on the premises of Government Boys College, in the city. Stalls creating awareness on the government schemes and highlighting the developments of various departments will also be housed at the expo.

Cultural programmes

Dais will be erected at Sir M Visvesvaraya stadium, Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar Kalamandira and exhibition premises to host a variety of cultural programmes.
 While local artistes and other popular silver screen artistes will present programmes at the main dais at Sir M V stadium, dramas will be staged at Kalamandira. Selection of artistes is in the final stages, sources said.

Rs Two crore funds

The State government had already released Rs two crore for the festival. Out of this, Rs 40 lakh has been released for cultural committee, Rs 35 lakh for exhibition, Rs 30 lakh for dais arrangement, Rs 15 lakh for sports committee.

Funds have also been released for printing invitations, publicity vehicle and others. With some committees seeking more funds, sponsorship has been sought, said Deputy Commissioner Ajai Nagabushan.

Sports meet

SP Bushan Borase, who is also the Working President of Platinum Jubilee’s Sports Committee, said that the winners of Kabaddi, Kho Kho, Volleyball competitions will be presented with Rs 25,000 cash prize. While runners-up will get Rs 15,000, the third prize winner will get Rs 10,000.

The competitions will be held on February 7 and 8 at taluk levels and district-level will be held on February 14 and 15 in city, he added.
