Exotic breeds of dogs and aquatic species stole the limelight on the inaugural day of the 8th edition of International Pet Trade Fair-2015 at Karnataka Trade Promotion Centre, Whitefield on Friday.

Over 30 breeds of dogs were paraded on the first day of the show. The owners and the pets participated in various competitions like dog training and grooming workshop. There was a session for grooming aquatic pets too.

The pet fair, organised by Creature Companion, an Indian pet care magazine, aims to showcase various type of pets, their talent and provide a forum for interaction of pet owners, veterinarians and experts.

Over 20,000 visitors are expected to attend the three-day event. Delegates from other countries, including China, United States, Taiwan, Japan, Slovakia, UK and Germany, are also participating. There are various stalls selling pet care products. There is also one stall where dogs are offered for adoption.

Linda Brady Hawke, Convenor, India International Pet Trade fair said, “Against the common belief, the pet care industry in India is more than the pet food market that everyone focuses upon. While, the pet food market has grown at a CAGR of 13.8 per cent in 2009-14, other categories like grooming, clothing and health care products are also on a rise.”

“We chose Bengaluru because we believe that in metros, pet parents tend to spend more on their pampered pooches. We are here to cater to the growing numbers of pet lovers, veterinary practitioners, pet groomers among others,” Linda added.
