Union Minister of State for Railways Manoj Sinha said on Saturday that there was no proposal to hike passenger fares.
“Railways requires massive funds for completing various infrastructural projects...but we will not put any burden on the passengers,” Sinha told reporters here after a function.
He said the government was trying to mobilise resources for the railways by inviting private investment. “The resources of the railways need to be increased substantially to meet the rising expectations of the people,” he added.
TSinha said the railways was committed to providing good facilities to the passengers besides ensuring their safety.
Sinha had earlier hinted at increasing the passenger fares.
The minister was here to flag off a tri-weekly train from Lucknow to Kathgodam in Uttarakhand.
